Inspired by an article I read about this church on Christmas day, I decided to pay it a visit. It is a church traditionally visited by those in dire need of assistance, to plea to the heavens for mercy and help. These days, it is a sanctuary for families of the victims of the senseless murders in my country; it is also one of the few that has dared to speak up (through a public, open-air photo exhibit) about this killing spree that many seem to have accepted. It serves as a reminder of the brutality going on in our midst, and a call to stay vigilant: the dead calling on the living to fight for their right to life.

This video / photo slideshow was presented as an introduction to a discussion about Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s “War on Drugs.” The event was organized by German newspaper Die Tageszeitung (TAZ), and was held at Taz Cafe in Berlin, Germany on January 12, 2017.
